The Top 10 Negotiation Secrets for You and Your Business
The August issue of Consumer Reports has a column entitled:
Let’s Make a Deal – “If you’re bold enough to bargain, you can reap big bucks”
Today I want to reveal the next four secrets of negotiation that can teach you more about a successful negotiation:
First and foremost is, “ASK”, as I mentioned last week.
2. Create Affinity Before and After the Negotiation
Find common rapport, create a relationship and state a win/win intention up front. Never criticize or accuse.
“Let’s see if we can put our heads together so it works for both of us.” “Would it be OK to try this another way?”
3. Create a Reason Why You Should Get a Better Price.
IE – The promise of future business, volume discount, struggling family need help at this time, Continuing Long term relationship.
*Bonus* – In legal negotiations, Boilerplate forms are cheaper…Ask for this!
4. Never, Ever Go First!
Negotiation closing language – “What’s the least you can live with”
spoken in a soft, rapport building tone. non-intimidating.
5. Remember and Keep Your Objective in mind
This is important to consider, BEFORE you enter into the negotiation.
“What are you intending to accomplish?”
